Benefits of Eco Silk Bedding and Apparel:

Eco Silk is eco silk because harvesting silk from cocoons remains the same as always, except now technology pampers and cares for silk wormsWhile most people rightly think of silk almost exclusively as a luxury item, silk has surprising health benefits and affordability.

First though, it's important to remember that the United States does not produce silk. Silk is almost exclusively produced in China, where centuries of expertise still produce stunning silks without chemical inputs during the care of silkworms and spinning into cloth. Therefore, you will likely not see a "Made in the USA" label, unless the finished cloth is imported, then sewn into natural silk bedding and apparel in the U.S.

Cool in Summer, Warm in Winter. Really?

Absolutely, yes! Silk, like organic wool and organic cottons, is a 100% natural fiber that retains the raw qualities that have made it such an important commodity over the centuries.

This means the fibers (again, like organic wool and cotton) are breathable, and will wick moisture away from the body. Drier sleep environments are naturally cooling. Conversely, strong draping qualities of silk bedding, especially sheets and comforters, will closely envelop the body eliminating air pockets, trapping warmth close to the skin for surprising winter comfort. While all this sounds contradictory, silk is in fact a natural temperature control in all seasons, because of its inherent properties alone.

Hypoallergenic:

Silk is again, a natural fiber that, because of gentle and delicate handling of silk worms and their cocoons, never loses the biological properties that nature provides, to protect from predators and other threats. Like organic wool and cotton, this means a fiber that is literally not wanted by dust mites, mold spores, mildews, and invasive fungii, that cause allergic reactions in humans.

Silk is absolutely an excellent choice for those with chemical sensitivities and certain types of allergies, and is a wonderful choice for babies as well.

Good for the Skin?

Well, silk retains all naturally occurring amino acids. While there is no evidence to suggest those naturally occurring elements in silk will magically cure wrinkles, acne, age spots or dry skin .... there isn't an amino acid in the world that will not be soothing to your skin.

I'll leave it at that.

Safety:

Yes, silk is a naturally fire retardant fiber requiring no U.S. government chemical intervention whatsoever (as if China would have it). Inherent fire resistance, along with silk's naturally hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and pest resistant properties, make eco silk bedding and apparel the perfect choice for loved ones of all ages.

About Mulberry Silks:

Mulberry Silk cocoons spun on the mulberry trees that provide the only food these silkworms eatMulberry silk (also known as Bombyx Silk for the exclusive use of Bombyx Mori silkworms) is the best quality, and most expensive silk available on the global market, but thanks to great suppliers such as Kumi Kookoon and Yala Designs, these luxury silks are available to all our customers.

Bombyx Mori silkworms are lovingly and carefully tended during their brief lifetimes in temperature controlled, clean environments free of loud noises; and fully shielded from human or animal odors of any kind. Because the Bombyx Mori silkworms will only eat mulberry leaves, they are provided rich, natural mulberry leaves in abundance around the clock, 7 days a week (hence the common name "Mulberry Silk").

Compared to silks harvested in the wild where silkworms eat whatever is available, pampered Bombyx Mori silk fibers are markedly finer and smoother, with greater consistency of color; and result in the strongest natural fibers in the world, with greater tensile strength than even hemp. A mulberry silk fiber is in fact stronger than a fiber of steel of the same circumference.

Silk lovers who expect the best will always look for 100% Mulberry Silks made with 100% Mulberry Silk floss. Browse our Eco Silk Shop for the finest eco silks available from Kumi Kookoon, and Yala Designs.
