Caring for Your Kapok Pillow:

Before sleeping on a new Kapok Pillow, fluff it in the dryer on warm for about 15 minutes. Kapok provides wonderfully soft, but firm support. If switching from down and feathers, it may take up to a month to get used to the firmness.

For long life, use a pillow protector and clean the pillow at least once a season, more often if required. Have it cleaned (preferably by eco-friendly dry cleaners) or machine wash in warm water using a mild soap (no bleach) on a gentle cycle. At the end of the cycle, reset to normal spin dry cycle for maximum water extraction. Then, tumble dry with three tennis balls or a clean canvas running shoe. Allow pillow to dry thoroughly - this may require several cycles. Proper drying is important because it ensures optimum loft, hygiene, shape retention and longevity.

Fluff the pillow once a month either in a dryer for 15 minutes with a couple of tennis balls or in direct sunlight in the summer time.

About Kapok Pillows:

Kapok is a wonderfully sustainable fiber from the rainforests, that is extracted only from the seed pods of Kapok trees ... the trees remain standing and living.

Harvested kapok fibers are spun at high speed then air cleaned, leaving virtually no dust or pod debris. This makes kapok pillow batting an excellent choice for people with allergies or other environmental sensitivities.

Kapok fibers are lighter than organic cotton with the soft feel of traditional down feather pillows (which we will not offer), but with more buoyancy than feathers for better support.

Advantages of Kapok Pillows:

Disadvantages:

* Kapok fibers are naturally lightweight and hollow. They take to the air quite nicely, making it a messy challenge to work with the batting for stuffing pillows and cushions. If working with Kapok batting, it may be a better idea to work outdoors.

* Kapok is NOT naturally fire resistant; and because no chemicals have been used in these these pillows, they will not be fire resistant.
